Building Hope, One Step at a Time at Southern Sun Farm Sanctuary
Exciting progress continues at Southern Sun Farm Sanctuary as work moves forward on the future Ginny Burton Horse Rescue Barn. While progress may feel slow at times, each completed step brings the sanctuary closer to providing a safer, more functional space for rescued horses and donkeys in need of care, healing, and second chances.
Recent milestones include the successful installation and approval of the septic system, along with continued plumbing work and site preparation. These important foundational projects are helping pave the way for the new centrally located nine stall rescue barn that will allow Southern Sun Farm Sanctuary to expand its ability to take in horses facing neglect, abandonment, abuse, or uncertain futures.
The need for equine rescue in the High Country and surrounding Helene impacted communities continues to grow. Every year, more horse owners face difficult circumstances, and more animals find themselves in desperate need of safe shelter, proper nutrition, veterinary care, and compassionate rehabilitation. The new barn will help Southern Sun Farm Sanctuary answer that need by creating additional safe housing and improving care for incoming rescues.
This life changing project has been made possible in part through the incredible generosity of Ginny Burton, whose major gift launched the vision for the barn. However, there is still much work to be done, and community support remains essential to bringing the project fully to life.
Every donation, large or small, helps move the barn closer to completion and directly supports the horses who will one day call it home. Contributions help fund construction materials, utilities, fencing, stalls, equipment, veterinary care, feed, and the countless daily needs that come with operating a rescue sanctuary.
Southern Sun Farm Sanctuary is deeply grateful for every volunteer, donor, and supporter who continues to believe in this mission. Together, this community is helping create a place where rescued horses can finally experience safety, compassion, and hope.
