Breaking News (and Ground!) at Southern Sun Farm Sanctuary
Thanks to a generous gift, we’re thrilled to share that the Ginny Burton Horse Rescue Barn is officially in progress! Construction has begun, led by Seth Osborne and Ben Cheek of SRO Construction—both skilled horsemen who bring not only expertise but heart to this project.
After exploring several options, we knew SRO was the right choice. Their deep experience building in our rugged mountain terrain allowed them to design an effective and affordable plan when others could not.
While this incredible donation launched the project, we’ll need additional support to bring it to completion. As the only 501(c)(3) horse rescue serving the seven counties that make up North Carolina’s High Country, this barn is vital for continuing our mission.
We believe in the compassion of our community—those who love horses and understand the importance of giving them a safe place to heal and thrive. With your help, we can finish this barn and keep making a difference for horses in need.
"I have supported this wonderful horse Sanctuary for years and now wanted to help them create this great community resource for all those who understand the animal welfare needs in the High Country."

Creating a Safe Space for Recovery
Piper testing out the new isolation area with Jay Alexander of JC Greene Rail Fencing in Deep Gap, NC — the craftsman behind its build. This special space was created for times when a horse needs a quiet place to rest and recover during treatment, especially while other areas are under construction.
